How to Make Traveling Full Time Your Lifestyle & Your Career

Justyn Jen, a blogger, traveler and pinterest marketing expertJustyn (pronounced Just-in) has been traveling full time since 2015. She's mastered travel blogging and pinterest to where she's making a living while traveling, and because of travel. Dream life right? We caught up with her to talk about the details of her life of full time travel, exploring new cities, packing habits, and balancing it all.

Where are you from originally?

I am from Utah!

When did you first know you were a traveler?

I traveled ALL through high school with my dad. The deal was, as long as my grades stayed up, I could travel. After high school my dad helped me plan a solo backpacking trip to Europe and as soon as I landed in Prague I knew this was the life for me. I've spent the past 3 and a half years traveling full time :)

Did your dad travel for work or for pleasure?

My dad travels for work! He works for a company that would take him to shows and training all around the U.S.
We traveled together to California (my favorite place was San Fransisco for sure. I love the coffee shops and colorful houses), Arizona (my favorite place being Sedona just for the art and culture there, as well as the hiking), Montana (I loved the wildlife and outdoors there), Oregon (we went to Portland and it snowed - A LOT so I didn't get to do much but it's such a cool city), New York (we walked the streets for about 15 hours eating pizza, seeing all the sites I've dreamed about and stopping in every museum!), Florida (loved the beaches of course!! My favorite place was Miami just for the food!) and Maine. I LOVE Portland, Maine. I think it might be my favorite city in the U.S.. If it wasn't so freezing I would probably just live there. I loved the culture, the people, the food and ALL the amazing coffee shops.

Tell me a little about where you've gone so far. What are your favorite locations and most impactful trips?

I'm a travel blogger full time and make money while traveling and because I travelI've been to over 55 countries throughout Central America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The most impactful places that I have even been to include a scooter trip around East Timor, 2 months backpacking through India and a solo backpacking trip through Central America! My favorite place that I have ever been was Japan but that's mainly for the singing toilets and Ramen!

What are your favorite items that you always travel with?

I never leave home without an insulated bottle that I can have water and coffee in. I have specific pants and dresses that can be worn in every culture and I always travel with my own silverware, straws and stuff because I have been to way too many places that have been destroyed with trash (i.e. trash burning season in Asia). I also never leave home without a hat so I can wash my hair less!

Tell me about your packing style:

I carry mostly hiking gear, I'm a Backpacker, and I carry just enough.

What are your future plans? Do you think you will ever stop traveling?

Right now I don't have any plans to stop traveling. I will continue on until I feel like it's time to take another path or until I find somewhere that I think I could stay forever. Traveling feels so natural to me now, I don't know how I will ever manage to stop.

How did you get started as a Pinterest Marketer?

I got started as a Pinterest Marketer sort of by accident. I started out doing Pinterest Marketing like crazy for my own blog and when another blogger found out how good my traffic was doing, she asked if I could manage hers as well. At first I only managed her account and mine because I still wasn't sure I would be successful at it, but now I am managing around 5-8 accounts a month seeing amazing results for everyone I work with.

If you had to chose one place to stay for the rest of your life, where would that be?

Right now, I really think that would be Iceland. My family is from Iceland so I go back every year and I really love it. It's just so expensive..

What advice would you give to a new traveler?

Don't be afraid! Just go! I was TERRIFIED when I left home for the first time by myself but the morning I woke up in a hostel I had instant friends. Travel will completely change your life and it's the number one thing I recommend.
