A Traveling Graphic Designer in Love With Asia

Gaby is an amazing graphic designer with a love of travel, and specifically Asia! Read about her adventures and balancing it all in our interview with her. 🌙

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Budapest, Hungary in an outer district.

When did you first know you were a traveler?

I think I have known it since I was 16. Somehow I never was able to sit on my ass.

What kind of graphic design do you do? What is your specialty?

I do a bit of everything, mostly printed media but I do video editing, websites and illustrations. Though I graduated originally a fashion designer.

Tell me a little about where you've gone so far. What are your favorite locations and most impactful trips?

I have visited most of the countries in Europe, lived in Denmark and the UK. I have been to New York, one of the most influential city in my life. For the last half year, I am travelling around SE Asia, I have been in Thailand (Bangkok and Chiang Mai), Indonesia (Jakarta, Surakarta, Yogyakarta), the Philippines (mostly in Manila), Singapore, Cambodia and now I am in Saigon, Vietnam.

Tell me more about your time in New York, how was it influential to you?

It was influential, because at that time I lived in a very small city in Denmark, then suddenly I have found myself in a buzzing city again. (After I left Hungary, I lived in London for 3 years, then moved to Denmark) It was a such a huge contrast. I felt like I am alive again, full of energy. Also, the mentality of the people were so different (everyone was helpful and smiling) that it sparked the traveller spirit again in me.

What’s your favorite thing to do when you get to a new location?

I like to explore the basic spots such as convenience store, local market etc, then sit down at a local cafe and just feel the vibe of the place.

What advice would you give to a new traveler?

When you decide what to bring with you, divide it by half, you won't need it. Don't bring your favourite clothes with you except if you stay long term at one place, they will get ruined.
